‘Kingdom’ Starts Strong but Slows Down at Box Office, Trails Behind ‘Liger’

Updated At: August 4, 2025 4:15 PM

Vijay Deverakonda’s latest action drama crosses ₹40.5 crore in four days but is unable to sustain its box office momentum

New Delhi: 4 August 2024

Actor Vijay Deverakonda’s much-anticipated film Kingdom premiered in cinemas to high expectations and fanfare on day one. However, after such short time in theatres, current indications are that the film’s box office potential may already be waning.

Kingdom Box Office Overview

Kingdom made a strong opening on Thursday, taking ₹18 crore on its first day, as a result of the hype surrounding Vijay’s return to the box office and healthy pre-release anticipation. But in the days that followed, the box office recorded a significant drop: ₹7.5 crore on Friday, a small increase to ₹8 crore Saturday, and then down again to ₹7 crore on Sunday. The film’s earnings stand at ₹40.5 crore.

However, Kingdom has not yet surpassed Liger’s lifetime box office collection. Vijay’s pan-India release from 2019 earned ₹41.17 crore.

What The Film is About

Kingdom is directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri and stars Vijay Deverakonda, as Suri, Satyadev, as Siva, Bhagyashri Borse, as Dr. Madhu; Murugan, Venkitesh. A mix of emotion, action, and suspense, the movie closes on a cliffhanger teaser ending to a sequel.

Producer is confirming sequel plans

Producer Naga Vamsi was really complimentary about the technical quality of the film: “I can claim confidently that there has been no film we have gotten in 2025 that comes close to our film in terms of technical quality. We made this film at par with that of a top notch Hollywood film.”

He also confirmed they are working on the sequel, after Vijay Deverakonda finishes his current projects, we will go ahead and work on the sequel.

What is next?

Kingdom has gotten a good response from fans and the media, but it is going to be important to keep up that box office momentum over the next few weeks. With the current buzz from word of mouth-so far Kingdom still can beat the record of Liger’s box office and other milestones if the sequel buzz amplifies due to response from the first film!
