PM Modi Inaugurates Kartavya Bhavan‑3: A New Beginning for Government Offices

Updated At: August 6, 2025 1:22 PM

This modern building is designed to bring several important ministries together in one place for better coordination and efficiency.

New Delhi | August 6, 2025:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated Kartavya Bhavan‑3, a modern office building in the heart of New Delhi. This is the first of ten new secretariat buildings being built as part of the Central Vista Project to improve the working environment for government staff and simplify how ministries work together.

What is Kartavya Bhavan‑3?

Kartavya Bhavan‑3 is a large, energy-efficient building located near Kartavya Path. It will now be home to several major government departments, including:

Ministry of Home Affairs
Ministry of External Affairs
Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas
Ministry of Rural Development
Ministry of MSME
Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT)
Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser

The building has seven floors and two basements, and is built over 1.5 lakh square metres. It includes modern offices, solar panels, rainwater harvesting, LED lighting, double-glazed windows, and EV charging points—all designed to save energy and protect the environment.

Why This Inauguration Matters

In his speech, PM Modi said this building represents a new era of governance, where different ministries can work more closely and efficiently. Until now, many departments were spread across old buildings like Shastri Bhawan and Nirman Bhawan. With the new structure, staff can work in better conditions with improved coordination.

This is part of a larger plan to relocate all key ministries to a new, connected space. The iconic North and South Blocks are set to be repurposed into a prestigious national museum, Yuge Yugeen Bharat, showcasing the timeless legacy of India’s cultural and historical heritage.

Public Address and Traffic Advisory

After the inauguration at 12:15 PM, the Prime Minister will give a public address at 6:30 PM at Kartavya Path. Because of this major event, Delhi Police issued traffic restrictions from 5 PM to 9 PM in central Delhi. Roads like Janpath, Rajendra Prasad Road, Mansingh Road, and Sansad Marg were closed temporarily.

Commuters were asked to use public transport, and additional police staff were deployed to manage the situation smoothly. VIP parking was arranged behind Vigyan Bhawan, and unauthorized vehicles were removed to ensure public safety.

Kartavya Bhavan‑3 is just the beginning. More buildings are under construction and will soon be ready to welcome other ministries such as Finance, Defence, and the Prime Minister’s Office. The goal is to create a centralised, modern, and citizen-friendly work environment for government departments.
