A High-Profile Union of Sports and Business
The Lineage, Wealth, and Controversies of the Chairman of Graviss Group
Mumbai, August 14, 2025
The engagement of cricketer Arjun Tendulkar, son of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, to Saaniya Chandok has not only sparked interest among sports and celebrity followers but also turned the spotlight on Saaniya’s grandfather, Ravi Ghai — one of India’s most prominent hospitality and food industry magnates.
The Graviss Group Legacy
Ravi Ghai is the chairman of the Graviss Group, a highly developed enterprise in Mumbai with strong interests in food, hospitality, and real estate. The group’s portfolio includes iconic brands like Kwality Ice Cream, Baskin-Robbins India, Brooklyn Creamery, and the Inter Continental Marine Drive Mumbai hotel.
A graduate of Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration (Class of 1966), Ghai inherited the business in 1967 after the passing of his father, Iqbal Krishan “IK” Ghai, widely known as the Maharajah of Ice Cream. Under his leadership, the company expanded into upscale hospitality ventures and international food franchises, cementing its position as a leader in India’s premium F&B sector.
Ravi Ghai’s Business Scale
Ravi Ghai has built a formidable business footprint. In the financial year 2023–24, Graviss Food Solutions Pvt Ltd reported revenues of ₹624 crore, marking a 20% growth over the previous year. The overall Graviss Group is estimated to be worth between ₹800 crore and ₹1,000 crore (around $100–120 million). Their hospitality assets are part of the global InterContinental portfolio, which itself is valued at over $18 billion.

Ravi Ghai’s Family Feud
Ravi Ghai has had controversy around his personal life of late. In July 2025, he filed a complaint accusing his son, Gaurav Ghai, of forgery, corporate fraud, and attempting to take control of Graviss assets during his cancer treatment. However, Mumbai Police later clarified that the dispute was civil, not criminal, advising that it be resolved in court.
Adding to the drama, Ghai publicly disowned Gaurav and other family members through a newspaper notice — a rare and public display of estrangement in India’s corporate circles.
Arjun Tendulkar Connection
Arjun Tendulkar and Saaniya Chandok got engaged in a private ceremony on August 13, 2025, in Mumbai. The event brought together two influential families — the Tendulkars, synonymous with cricketing greatness, and the Ghais, icons in the hospitality sector.
Saaniya, besides her family’s business legacy, is an entrepreneur in her own right, having co-founded Mr. Paws Pet Spa & Store, a luxury pet-care brand. The engagement has been described as intimate, attended by close friends and relatives, with no large-scale media presence.
Why It Matters
Corporate Meets Cricket — The engagement links one of India’s most famous sporting families with a legacy hospitality empire.
Brand Spotlight — Public attention could boost the visibility of Graviss brands and Saaniya’s entrepreneurial ventures.
Family Dynamics — Ongoing legal disputes within the Ghai family may influence future business operations.
The upcoming wedding of Arjun Tendulkar and Saaniya Chandok looks poised to garner all the national interest you’d expect for an event of this parasitic importance, not only with the fanfare of a high-profile wedding but also an intersection of two worlds, sport and the hospitality boardroom.
