Indian shooter Aishwary Pratap Singh scores 462.5 to outclass rivals; teammates help secure team silver
New Delhi: 25 August 2025
In the 16th Asian Shooting Championship, Indian shooter Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar confirmed his status as one of the top rifle shooters in India by winning the gold medal in the men’s 50m rifle 3-positions event.
Clinical Finish to the Final
Tomar took the lead in the kneeling position and showed no signs of wobbling through the prone series. His standing stage finish was a perfect 10.8 on his 14th shot, and he raced past Wenyu Zhao of China (462.0) for the gold medal. Japan’s Naoya Okada finished third with 445.8 points.
A Short Silver Medal by Team Effort
Tomar and his teammates Chain Singh and Akhil Sheoran all scratched together enough to medal once again. In the final, Tomar won gold, with Singh ending in fourth position and Sheoran finishing fifth. The trio earned the silver medal for India as a team and secured enough points in the individual event to guarantee everyone was on the podium in the team results.
Another Title in the Continent
For Tomar, he also successfully defended his Asian victory in 2023 as well as cemented a second Asian title overall in the 50m rifle 3-position event. During last year’s championship, he secured the silver medal after a close finish with fellow Indian Sheoran.
India’s Young Guns Shine Too
Adriyan Karamakar was a part of the Indian party in the junior category, as he won gold in the men’s 50m rifle 3-position with a new Asian junior record of 463.8 points. Meanwhile, Saurabh Chaudhary and Suruchi Inder Singh together picked up bronze in the 10m air pistol mixed team and added to India’s medal tally once again.
Importance for Indian Shooting
Overall, Tomar’s success provides further indication of India’s improving standing in world shooting and further demonstration of India’s depth in rifle events in particular. With back-to-back continental medals, the 23-year-old Tomar continues to establish himself as one of India’s more dependable figures on the international stage.
