Will Mohammed Shami Stage a Strong Comeback? The Player Responds

Updated At: August 28, 2025 12:03 PM

BCCI and Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar have voiced their concerns regarding Mohammed Shami’s fitness. Meanwhile, the fast bowler has taken it in stride, stating he has no hard feelings about being left out and is determined to prove himself in the upcoming Duleep Trophy.

Ajit Agarkar elaborated that Shami’s fitness levels and workload didn’t quite align with what the team needs. Previous discussions with the BCCI revealed that Shami himself wasn’t entirely confident about his readiness for matches, which ultimately led to his omission from the England Test series.

Shami has made it clear that he’s eager to take part in the Duleep Trophy, kicking off on August 28. After recently passing the Bronco Fitness Test, he’s optimistic that strong performances in domestic cricket will help him win back the selectors’ trust.

Shami, who made his Test debut against the West Indies in 2013, has claimed over 250 wickets in more than 60 Test matches and surpassed the 150-wicket milestone in ODIs. Renowned for his express pace, reverse swing, and lethal yorkers, he has been a crucial player in the 2015, 2019, and 2023 World Cups, finishing among the top wicket-takers in the most recent tournament.

What Lies Ahead?

Now, all eyes are on Shami as he gears up for the Duleep Trophy. The BCCI will be keeping a close watch to see if this seasoned pacer can bounce back and reclaim his place in international cricket.
