Navratri 2025: Dates, Rituals, and Beautiful Wishes to Share with Loved Ones

Updated At: September 22, 2025 11:56 AM

Celebrate this Navratri with these 20 heartfelt wishes, quotes, and greetings for your loved ones.

The festive season has officially begun as Shardiya Navratri 2025 started today, 22 September, and will end with Vijayadashami, or Dussehra, on 2 October. Devotees are participating in traditional pujas, fasting, devotional bhajans, and colorful Garba and Dandiya nights, both in India and around the world.

The Meaning and Spirit of Navratri

Navratri, meaning “nine nights,” is an occasion to worship the nine forms of Goddess Durga from Shailaputri to Siddhidatri. The celebrations begin with ghatasthapana (setting up of the sacred pot followed by puja each day), chanting of mantras, and preparing bhog special to that goddess for each of the nine days. In addition to devotion, Navratri is also about meeting friends and people, music, dance, and cultural programs.

Dates, Muhurat, and Day-Wise Celebrations

Shardiya Navratri will be celebrated from 22 September to 2 October in 2025. Each of the nine days is associated with a particular goddess, color, and food to follow; while devotees eagerly await the opportunity to follow traditions with devotion, they also check the local panchang to perform ghatasthapana and aartis there according to the most auspicious moments.

Colors and Bhog for Each Day The beloved tradition of wearing a different color each day continued this year, along with colors representing purity, courage, prosperity, and strength. Many families also prepare special sattvic bhog (food offerings), which may include kheer, puri, halwa, or fruits, for the goddess. These are considered to bring blessings, peace, and prosperity.

How different parts of India celebrate Navratri

Gujarat: Commonly considered the heart of Garba and Dandiya celebrations, in cities like Ahmedabad, the grand festivities, community dance competitions, and themed evenings bring in large crowds, making it a festival to remember.

West Bengal: Navratri and Durga Puja go hand in hand in the state of West Bengal, where breathtaking pandals, grand idols, rituals, and cultural events bring entire neighborhoods together.

Across India and Abroad: From South Indian temples to Indian communities abroad, devotees observe the festivities in different ways with prayers, bhajans, and cultural events. Although the customs may share similarities, the devotion to Maa Durga is universal.

Tips for Devotees and Travellers

With large gatherings expected, organizers are urging devotees to book tickets early for Garba events, follow crowd safety guidelines, and take special care of children and senior citizens. Travellers travelling to major hub celebrations, like those in Ahmedabad, Kolkata, and Delhi, are encouraged to arrange housing and transport in advance and make their travels easier on themselves.
