Oscar Nominee Diane Ladd Dies At 89, Daughter Laura Dern Shares Emotional Tribute

Laura Dern calls her mother Diane Ladd the greatest artist with the deepest empathy

Veteran American actress Diane Ladd, known for her powerful screen presence and three Academy Award nominations, has died at the age of 89. She passed away on November 3, 2025, at her home in Ojai, California. Her daughter and Hollywood star Laura Dern was next to her during her final moments.

Laura Dern posted an emotional tribute saying that her mother was not only a legendary actress but someone who made life meaningful for the people around her. In her message she remembered Diane Ladd as a daughter, mother, grandmother and a compassionate artist who touched every soul she met.

Six Decade Long Career of Diane Ladd

Diane Ladd was born on November 29, 1935 in Laurel, Mississippi. She was considered one of the most respected character actresses in Hollywood. She spent more than sixty years in films and television and acted in over two hundred projects in her lifetime.

She earned three Academy Award nominations. Her first nomination came in 1974 for Alice Does not Live Here Anymore. Then she received a nomination in 1990 for Wild at Heart. Her third nomination came in 1991 for Rambling Rose. Apart from acting she also authored books and explored writing and directing which showed her wide creative talent.

Family Life And Her Health Battle

Diane Ladd was married three times. Her marriage with actor Bruce Dern from 1960 to 1969 is remembered because their daughter Laura Dern grew up to become one of the top actresses of modern Hollywood.

In 2018 Diane Ladd faced a major health setback when she was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis which is a serious lung disease. She fought very strongly with medical treatment and support from family especially Laura Dern. Her improvement had even surprised her doctors at that time.

Hollywood Says Goodbye

According to information released by her family and representatives, Diane Ladd passed away at home. The exact cause of death has not been publicly disclosed till now, but she had been dealing with declining health in recent years.

Hollywood has been sharing heartfelt messages since her passing. Friends, co actors, directors and industry colleagues are recalling her warmth, dedication, and the powerful craft she brought to every role.

Her death has closed a major chapter in American cinema. Diane Ladd leaves behind a legacy of unforgettable roles, a lifetime dedicated to storytelling and an influence that inspired generations of actors.
