A plane carrying 33 people from Gujarat, part of a group of 104 Indians deported from the US for illegal immigration, landed at Ahmedabad airport on Thursday morning. After arriving, the group, including women and children, was taken to their homes in Gujarat by police vehicles.
The deportees had arrived earlier in Amritsar, Punjab, on a US military aircraft. Family members of the Gujaratis said they were unaware of how their relatives ended up in the US. Former Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel expressed sympathy for the deported individuals, emphasizing that they had gone abroad in search of jobs and should not be labeled as criminals.
