A five-year-old boy brought a firearm to his school in Bihar today and discharged it, injuring another student, according to police reports. The incident occurred at St. Joan Boarding School in Supaul district.
The young boy, a nursery student, concealed the gun in his school bag. During the school day, he fired the weapon at a 10-year-old student, causing an injury to the child’s arm. The injured student, a third grader, is currently receiving medical treatment.
The victim recounted in a video from his hospital bed that the shooter pulled out the gun and fired at him without any prior conflict.
In response to the incident, the police have detained the school’s principal and are investigating the circumstances surrounding this serious lapse in safety. Efforts are underway to locate both the shooter and his father.
Parents, alarmed by the event, gathered at the school, expressing their frustration with the administration through protests. A senior police officer has indicated that they are instructing schools across the district to implement more rigorous checks of students’ bags to prevent future occurrences.
