In a strategic move aimed at consolidating its position in Punjab ahead of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) unveiled its initial list of candidates on Thursday. Notably, the party has opted to field five of its Cabinet ministers, signaling a deliberate effort to strengthen its foothold in the state.
Among the key nominations, Cabinet Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal has been selected to contest from the prestigious Amritsar constituency, while Laljit Singh Bhullar will represent the party in Khadoor Sahib. Similarly, Gurmeet Singh Khudian, another Cabinet Minister, will vie for the Bathinda seat, followed by Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer from Sangrur and Balbir Singh from Patiala.
Further bolstering its roster, the party has re-nominated Jalandhar MP Sushil Rinku for the upcoming elections. Additionally, AAP has introduced fresh faces into the fold, with Gurpreet Singh GP emerging as the candidate for the Fatehgarh Sahib constituency. Noteworthy is Singh’s recent transition from the Congress, where he served as an MLA representing Bassi Pathana.
In a move indicative of expanding outreach, Punjabi actor Karamjeet Anmol has been enlisted to contest from the Faridkot constituency, adding a dynamic dimension to the party’s electoral endeavors.
