New Delhi, December 9, 2024:
With the Delhi Assembly elections approaching, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress, are finalizing their preparations. On Monday, AAP released its second list of 20 candidates for the upcoming elections and the Congress is expected to announce its first list of candidates within this week.
Interestingly, both parties have decided to contest the elections separately, marking a break from any potential alliance. This means a direct face-off between AAP and Congress.
AAP’s New List of Candidates
AAP’s second list includes prominent leaders like Manish Sisodia, who has been fielded from the Jangpura seat, while Avadh Ojha, who recently joined the party, will contest from Patparganj— a seat previously held by Sisodia. The list also features Jitender Singh Shunty from Shahdara and Surinder Pal Singh Bittu from Timarpur, both of whom joined AAP after leaving the BJP. Shunty replaces the sitting AAP MLA and Speaker of the outgoing Assembly, Ram Niwas Goel, while Bittu is contesting in place of Dilip Pandey, the party’s chief whip.
Earlier, AAP had announced 11 candidates in its first list, bringing the total number of candidates for the party to 31.
Congress to Announce its List Soon
Following AAP’s announcement, Congress is preparing to release its list of candidates. Sources indicate that Congress is expected to unveil its first list by the end of this week, with around two dozen names likely to be announced.
