Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday confirmed via a tweet that his party will contest the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections independently. “AAP will fight the elections on its own strength. There is absolutely no possibility of an alliance with Congress,” Kejriwal wrote. He tweeted this in response news agency ANI report claiming that Congress and AAP were in the final stages of agreeing on an alliance for the Delhi elections, with 15 seats for Congress, 1-2 seats for other INDIA Alliance members, and the rest for AAP, according to sources.
AAP has consistently showcased its dominance in the capital, winning 67 out of 70 seats in 2015 and securing 62 seats in 2020 with significant margins. As part of its preparation for the 2025 elections, the party released its second list of candidates on Monday, further solidifying its commitment to the campaign.
The elections, scheduled for early 2025, will see AAP aiming for a third consecutive term in the Delhi Assembly, following its landslide victories in 2015 and 2020. Kejriwal’s statement also puts to rest any speculation about an alliance with Congress under the INDIA bloc framework, as both parties have decided to contest separately in Delhi.
