The request made by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal to appoint Raghav Chadha as the interim leader in the Rajya Sabha has been declined by Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar. Dhankhar, in a letter to Kejriwal, explained that the request does not conform to the relevant legal framework, specifically referring to ‘The Leaders and Chief Whips of Recognised Parties and Groups in Parliament (Facilities) Act, 1998’ and its associated rules. As a result, the request has not been approved.
Earlier this month, Kejriwal had urged Dhankhar to designate Chadha as the interim leader of AAP in the Rajya Sabha, citing the absence of floor leader Sanjay Singh, who was in judicial custody. Despite the request, Dhankhar’s decision based on legal considerations means that Singh continues to hold the position of the AAP leader in the Rajya Sabha.
