The release of the Hindi film Abir Gulaal, starring Pakistani actor Fawad Khan and Indian actress Vaani Kapoor, has been stopped in India following public outrage after the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has not issued an official statement, but sources say the film has not been given clearance for release. It was originally set to hit theatres on May 9.

The terror attack in Pahalgam, which killed 26 tourists, has led to a wave of anger and mourning across the country. in the aftermath, Many theatre owners have refused to screen the film, and several film industry groups have demanded a boycott.

Earlier this month, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), led by Raj Thackeray, opposed the film’s release, citing continued tensions between India and Pakistan. The latest violence in Jammu and Kashmir has only strengthened those calls.

The lead of the movie and Pakistani actor, Fawad Khan, has also expressed his sorrow in an Instagram story, saying, “Deeply saddened to hear the news of the terrible attack in Pahalgam. Our prayers and condolences are with the victims. We hope their families find strength in this difficult time.”

Abir Gulaal is directed by Aarti S. Bagdi and produced by Vivek B. Agrawal. Till now, it is unclear if or when the film will be released in India, and no new release date has been announced.
