Mythri Movie Makers, the production house behind Pushpa 2, finds itself in fresh legal trouble while still dealing with the aftermath of the tragic stampede during the film’s premiere.
New Delhi: Mythri Movie Makers has once again found itself in hot water. While still recovering from the *
Pushpa 2 stampede incident, the company is now entangled in legal controversy surrounding its upcoming film, Jai Hanuman.
A sequel to the successful 2024 movie HanuMan, Jai Hanuman stars Rishab Shetty in the lead role. However, high court advocate Mamidal Thirumal Rao has filed a case at the Nampally Criminal Court, accusing the film’s team—Rishab Shetty, director Prasanth Varma, and producers Ravi Shankar and Naveen Yerneni—of disrespectfully portraying Lord Hanuman.
Objections to Hanuman’s Depiction
Addressing the media three days ago, Rao expressed his concerns over the teaser for Jai Hanuman, which was released on 30 October last year. According to him, the teaser features a depiction of Lord Hanuman with a “human face,” which he finds offensive and a distortion of divine imagery.
“The teaser shows Rishab Shetty as a powerful king with a muscular body, but his face is distinctly human. This is a disrespectful portrayal of Lord Hanuman, who is not human,” Rao stated.
He further warned that such portrayals could mislead younger generations about Lord Hanuman’s true form. “If this is allowed, the younger generation will grow up believing that Hanuman was human. This could extend to other deities like Ganesh and Varaha Swami, distorting their traditional representations for profit. We can’t allow this to be continue,” he added.
New Challenges for Mythri Movie Makers
This legal battle comes as yet another blow to Mythri Movie Makers, already reeling from the tragic stampede during the premiere of Pushpa 2: The Rule.
The incident occurred on 4 December last year at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad, during a promotional visit by Allu Arjun, the lead actor of the film. The stampede claimed the life of a 35-year-old woman and left her young son critically injured.
Following the incident, the victim’s family filed a complaint, leading to the arrest of Allu Arjun, the theatre management, and several security personnel. Although the actor was later granted bail by the Telangana High Court, the tragedy continues to haunt the production house.
The controversy surrounding Jai Hanuman now adds to the growing list of challenges facing Mythri Movie Makers, casting a shadow over its recent projects.
