Amir Khan’s ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ to skip OTT, opts for Pay-Per-View release

The upcoming comedy-drama will hit theatres on June 20, 2025, with plans to stream on YouTube as a pay-per-view title instead of following the usual OTT route.
Aamir Khan is set to try something new with his next film, Sitaare Zameen Par, and rather than releasing the movie on a major OTT platform after its theatrical run, the Bollywood icon is reportedly leaning toward a pay-per-view model. The film, directed by RS Prasanna, is slated to arrive in cinemas on June 20, 2025.
Industry sources reveal that Aamir wants to avoid the typical post-theatre streaming release, believing it dilutes the cinematic experience. “He feels that releasing a film directly on OTT after its theatrical run makes people less likely to watch it in theatres,” a source shared. Interestingly, the recently released poster for Sitaare Zameen Par carries no sign of a streaming partner, hinting at the shift in strategy.

The new plan? Make the film available on YouTube’s pay-per-view service a couple of months after it leaves theatres. This means viewers will have to purchase access to the film individually, rather than watching it as part of a broader subscription.
The source added, “There’s a perception that smaller, character-driven films don’t draw big crowds and are better suited for OTT. But the pay-per-view model creates a sense of urgency and ownership , viewers pay for that specific film, which encourages more meaningful engagement. Aamir sees this as a viewer-first approach that also gives creators more control.”
Directed by RS Prasanna, Sitaare Zameen Par is a comedy-drama that explores the lives of people with special needs. Aamir Khan plays a major role alongside Genelia Deshmukh in this heartfelt and thoughtful story.
