Anoushka Shankar, the sitar prodigy and daughter of the legendary sitar maestro Ravi Shankar is once again in the Grammy spotlight with two nominations for the 2025 awards.
Her career, spanning over two decades, is marked by a long-standing relationship with the Grammy Awards, where she has achieved multiple historic milestones and amassed 11 nominations, including two for the 2025 ceremony.

Shankar’s Grammy journey began in 2002 when she made history as the youngest nominee and the first Indian woman to be nominated in the World Music category, thanks to her album Live At Carnegie Hall. Her influence only grew in 2005 when she became the first Indian musician to perform at the Grammy Awards. She continued breaking barriers, becoming a Grammy presenter in 2016, and in 2021, she performed during the Grammy broadcast held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2023, Shankar returned to the Grammy stage for a memorable third performance, this time celebrating the collaboration between Indian and Pakistani artists. She and Pakistani vocalist Arooj Aftab were co-nominated for their song Udhero Na in the Best Global Performance category, a powerful moment that celebrated South Asian musical unity.
For the 2025 Grammy Awards, Shankar has two nominations. Her latest album, Ch II: How Dark It Is Before Dawn, is in the running for Best New Age, Ambient or Chant Album, highlighting her evolving artistry in fusing traditional Indian and global sounds. Additionally, she is nominated for her contribution to Jacob Collier’s A Rock Somewhere, which is vying for Best Global Performance.
