‘Inciting Crowd’: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has directed the Director General of Police, GP Singh, to file a case against Rahul Gandhi for encouraging the crowd to breach barricades. Sarma, in a tweet, mentioned that footage shared by Srinivas on his social media accounts will serve as evidence. Responding to a post by Youth Congress president Srinivas BV, the chief minister stated, “I have instructed @DGPAssamPolice to register a case against your leader @RahulGandhi for provoking the crowd.”
Sarma emphasized that such actions are not aligned with Assamese culture, describing them as ‘naxalite tactics’ that are foreign to the region’s traditions. He accused the Congress leader of causing a significant traffic jam in Guwahati due to unruly behavior and violation of agreed-upon guidelines.
The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, led by Rahul Gandhi, faced resistance as Assam police prevented it from entering Guwahati. This decision sparked protests from Congress workers, resulting in the breaking of barricades and raised slogans. The police had to use force to prevent the Congress supporters from advancing.
Despite Sarma initially granting permission for the yatra, it was on the condition that it would not enter the city but pass through National Highway (NH-27). The chief minister had cited potential traffic congestion as the reason for restricting the yatra from entering the city.
