BCCI releases men’s contracts for 2024–25, Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan reinstated

The BCCI has released Team India’s (Senior Men) Annual Player Contracts for the 2024-25 season, which runs from October 1, 2024, to September 30, 2025. A big change is the restoration of Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan, who were earlier barred from signing contracts for the 2023-24 season owing to absences from the Ranji Trophy.

The BCCI’s central contracts are categorized into four grades: A+, A, B, and C. The annual retainership amounts for these grades are as follows:

• Grade A+: ₹7 crore
• Grade A: ₹5 crore
• Grade B: ₹3 crore
• Grade C: ₹1 crore

In the latest announcement:

• Shreyas Iyer has been promoted to Grade B from no contract
• Ishan Kishan, who had no contract, has been placed on Grade C.
  

Background on previous exclusions

Both Iyer and Kishan were omitted from the previous year’s contracts. Iyer reportedly missed a Ranji Trophy match in February 2024, citing injury concerns, while Kishan opted out of the domestic circuit after taking a brief hiatus from competitive cricket. Their decisions not to participate in the Ranji Trophy were viewed unfavorably by the BCCI, which emphasizes the importance of domestic cricket participation for national selection.
