In a major step toward making highway travel smoother and more affordable for private vehicle owners, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday announced the launch of a FASTag-based Annual Pass priced at ₹3,000. The scheme will come into effect from August 15, 2025, and is aimed exclusively at non-commercial private vehicles including cars, jeeps, and vans.
Valid for One Year or 200 Trips: Nitin Gadkari
Users can use the annual pass for up to 200 trips or a full year starting from its activation date, depending on which comes earlier. According to the minister, this initiative is meant to address long-pending concerns regarding toll charges and ease of access, particularly for people who frequently use highways within a 60 km radius.
Seamless Travel and Reduced Toll Hassles
Gadkari stated that with this pass, travelers can avoid repeated toll charges by using a simplified prepaid mechanism. “This will reduce waiting times, ease congestion at toll plazas, and minimize disputes—ultimately creating a faster, smoother, and more cost-effective travel experience,” he said in his official social media post.
Activation via Rajmarg Yatra App and Official Websites
A dedicated digital interface for activation and renewal of the FASTag Annual Pass will soon be rolled out on the Rajmarg Yatra App and the official websites of NHAI and MoRTH. This initiative is expected to benefit millions of daily and short-distance highway commuters who currently face repetitive toll charges.
Targeting Local Travel and Regular Commuters
This policy particularly benefits commuters who frequently travel short distances across toll plazas—especially those within a 60 km range—by replacing multiple toll payments with a one-time transaction.
With this move, the government continues its push toward digitalization, infrastructure efficiency, and user convenience under its broader #PragatiKaHighway and #FASTagBasedAnnualPass initiatives.
