A sad accident took away the life of 30-year-old Micah Manalese, a passionate climber from Southern California, who fell to her death while climbing in the well-known Pine Creek Trail in Nevada’s Red Rock Canyon, just last week.
Death-Defying Fall During Climbing Trip
Manalese had been out climbing with a friend when disaster struck. In negotiating the rough terrain, she slipped and lost her grip from the cliff. Eyewitnesses, including a party of climbers on the opposite side of the canyon, had reportedly watched her in horror alone.
Rescue response came very quickly, but sadly emergency rescue teams, including helicopters, could do nothing to save her.
Her Last Facebook Post Showcases Her Love for Climbing
In another cruel twist, Manalese’s last Facebook post is now attracting attention as a bittersweet musing on her love of climbing. It was posted on January 1 and speaks of her excitement about going back to the sport after a four-year break.
“I have been outside climbing since 2014, but in the past 4 years has been on a back-burner. I love sport climbing, and this year was special for me to ignite that passion for myself again. Thank you for every belay and every moment I got to spend outside. I hunger for more.”

Images from her post show her very much enjoying her passion for climbing, thus even more aptly describing the spirit that flowed in her veins.
Dear ones mourn the unfillable void
News of Manalese’s tragic death has left family, friends, and the climbing community shattered. Her boyfriend, Robert gave his emotional tribute, remembering her as “outgoing, courageous, and a blessing to anyone who had the chance to meet her.”
