Nearly 200 pilgrims are stranded in Kedarnath following a cloudburst that triggered a landslide. A high alert has been issued, mobilizing the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, and local officials. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday in Uttarakhand’s Kedarnath, caused significant damage to approximately 30 meters of the walkway. The sudden heavy rainfall also resulted in a rise in the water level of Mandakini River.
Authorities have expressed concern for the 150 to 200 pilgrims currently stranded in Kedarnath, and those en route to the shrine have been advised to seek shelter in safe locations.
Earlier, another cloudburst led to a landslide in the Bhim Bali stream area along the Kedarnath walkway, causing damage to the route. This pathway has been temporarily closed for safety reasons. Fortunately, no deaths or injuries have been reported following the recent cloudburst.
This development follows days of heavy rain that triggered a landslide in Uttarakhand’s Tehri district, which resulted in the destruction of several houses and shops. Tragically, a 42-year-old woman and her teenage daughter were buried under the debris in that incident.
