CM Rekha Gupta meets parents over DPS Dwarka fee hike

Parents welcome new school fee regulation bill, said the previous government ignored fee hike issue; thank the current administration for action against DPS Dwarka
New Delhi, May 3, 2025 —
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Education Minister Ashish Sood met with parents at the Delhi Secretariat today, following complaints about fee hikes by Delhi Public School (DPS), Dwarka. The meeting came after the Delhi government introduced a new School Fee Regulation Bill aimed at curbing arbitrary increases in school fees.
Parents affected by the DPS Dwarka fee hike expressed their support for the new bill and thanked the government for addressing the issue. They alleged that the previous government failed to act on their complaints and left them with no choice but to approach the courts.

“Despite repeated requests, no action was taken. The previous government forced us into legal battles and allowed schools to act unchecked,” said one parent. Others said their children faced harassment in school due to non-payment of the increased fees.
The parents criticised the earlier administration for not taking any strict measures against the school. “We were left alone. The school increased fees without reason, and instead of intervention, we got silence,” another parent said.

They said the new bill introduced by the Delhi government would offer relief to many families struggling with rising education costs. “This bill addresses the problem we’ve been raising for years. We fully support it,” a group of parents told reporters after the meeting.
The Delhi government has said the new bill will regulate fee structures in private schools, bring transparency, and ensure that parents are not burdened with arbitrary hikes.
