Three Delhi robberies occurred in a span of 10 minutes, resulting in the tragic death of a 74-year-old man and serious injuries to two others. The incidents, which took place in the Sagarpur area of southwest Delhi, have brought to light a dangerous criminal trend in the city.
Dangerous Trend: 3 Delhi Robberies in 10 Minutes, 74-Year-Old Killed, Cops on High Alert
The three perpetrators, riding on a motorcycle, targeted their victims one after the other. Their first victim was Mohan Lal Chhabra, the 74-year-old man, from whom they stole gold ornaments and cash. He was repeatedly stabbed until he succumbed to his injuries. The attackers then went on to assault two more individuals, Ashok (54 years old) and Om Dutt (70 years old). Fortunately, both Ashok and Om Dutt survived the attacks, although Mr. Dutt was robbed of ₹500 and some documents.
Thanks to the swift action of the police, all three culprits were apprehended. Among them was Akshay Kumar, a notorious criminal with a staggering 42 criminal cases against him. His accomplices, Sonu and Vaibhav Srivastava, were also arrested. Akshay confessed to the crimes, and the murder weapon, along with the stolen items, was recovered. The police are also investigating the possibility that the attackers were intoxicated during the incidents.
These robberies have unveiled a disturbing pattern, as criminals now seem to be targeting senior citizens during the early hours when the streets are relatively deserted. Many elderly individuals, including women, often take morning walks in the neighborhoods of the national capital. This new modus operandi has raised concerns among the Delhi Police, who are now deliberating on measures to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.
