In a tragic incident involving a prominent individual’s family, the daughter of a Rajya Sabha MP is accused of running over a man sleeping on a pavement in Chennai with her BMW. The victim succumbed to his injuries, and the accused has since been granted bail.
On Monday night, Madhuri, daughter of YSR Congress Rajya Sabha MP Beeda Masthan Rao, was behind the wheel of BMW, accompanied by female friend. She allegedly struck Surya, a 24-year-old painter who was asleep on the pavement in Besant Nagar, Chennai, reportedly while intoxicated.
Authorities noted that after the collision, Madhuri’s friend exited the vehicle and engaged in a heated exchange with the onlookers who had gathered. She eventually departed from the scene. Concerned bystanders rushed Surya to a hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries.
Surya, recently married just eight months prior, left behind grieving family members who, along with their community, gathered at the J-5 Shastri Nagar Police Station to demand justice. The police, after scrutinizing CCTV footage, identified that the vehicle was registered to the BMR (Beeda Masthan Rao) Group in Puducherry. Madhuri was arrested but was later granted bail at the police station.
Mr. Rao, who assumed office as a Rajya Sabha MP in 2022 and has a history as an MLA, is at the helm of the well-regarded BMR Group, a key player in the seafood industry.
