Defending Samay Raina, Uorfi Javed: “it is definitely distasteful, but it is not a crime’

After Samay Raina’s India Got Latent, the controversy which blew up got support from Uorfi

February 11th, 2025

Stand-up comedian Samay Raina’s reality show India has Got Latent embroiled in a controversy following the last episode with Ranveer Allahbadia, a YouTuber. Due to an allegedly offensive statement, the show has landed itself in severe backlash and a complaint against both Samay and Ranveer has been made. Meanwhile, Uorfi Javed has come to support Samay by saying that while the comments made were distasteful, these comments do not warrant legal action.

Uorfi Javed Speaks Out

Uorfi Javed took to her Instagram Stories to address the controversy, disagreeing with all such demands for imprisonment. She wrote:

“You don’t like certain people, you don’t like the things they do or say, but demanding for them to go to jail for that? Are you serious? Ummmm… I don’t know. Samay is a friend, I have his back, but even the rest of the people on the panel- what they said was distasteful, yes-but I don’t think they deserve to go to jail for that.”

Uorfi had earlier walked out of the show as a guest when participants made inappropriate comments about her. However, she later clarified that Samay Raina consoled her and thus holds no grudge against him. Previously she had said:

“Also, in no way do I blame @maisamayhoon! He’s a friend. I’m talking about the contestants! The entire team came and consoled me. Samay has been nothing but nice to me since then.”

Importantly, Samay Raina appeared in Uorfi’s reality show, Follow Kar Lo Yaar, aired last year.

What Has Leading to the Backlash?

It all began when Ranveer Allahbadia asked during the show, India’s Got Talent, a pretty disturbing question to a contestant:

“Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?”

The question caused a stir on social media with revolting criticism pouring in from everywhere. Apologizing for his indecisive statement, Ranveer asked his self about the cut from such an episode.

Call For Action Against the Show

All India Cine Workers Association has issued a press statement urging the authorities for strict action against Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahbadia. It also called for an immediate ban on India’s Got Latent.

Adding to the political pressure, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis weighed in on the matter, stating that freedom of expression has its limits. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has vowed to raise the issue in Parliament, intensifying the scrutiny around the show.

As things have begun to take place, nothing could be said as to how the makers of India’s Got Latent would respond or if more misfortune would befall the show.
