Delhi Assembly Elections 2025: Voting on February 5, Dates Announced

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the dates for the Delhi Assembly Elections 2025 and with this the Model Code of Conduct has now come into force in Delhi. The term of the 70-member Delhi Assembly is to end on February 23, 2025. The Election Commission wants to conduct the elections before the retirement of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar, who is retiring on February 18, 2025.

As per election commission there are 1.55 crores registered voters in Delhi. However any citizen who has not yet registered would be able to do so up to 10 days before the last date of filing nominations. There are more than 13,033 polling stations are to be made in Delhi and there will also be 100% webcasting. For Delhi assembly elections 2025 special facilities like *Home Voting for elders above 85 years and especially disabled voters will also be ensured. The vote for all of the 70 Assembly seats shall be cast as a single-phase election.

Simultaneously, by-elections will also be conducted for the Milkipur (273) seat in Uttar Pradesh and the Erode East (98) seat in Tamil Nadu. The process of election will start with the gazette notification on January 10, 2025. The last date for submitting nominations is January 17, with the date for scrutiny of nomination papers on January 18. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is January 20. Delhi will go to polls on 5th February, Wednesday, 2025 and the counting of votes is scheduled for February 8. The overall election process will be completed by February 10, 2025. 

All the major parties are gearing up for their campaigns and are striving to gain the support of the voters. At the same time, the by-elections in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu are expected to bring changes to the political dynamics in those states. All eyes are now on February 5, when the people of Delhi will exercise their democratic rights and begin the process of selecting a new government.
