Delhi Chalo March: Punjab Chief Minister Announces Rs 1 Crore, Government Job for Deceased Farmer’s Family

The recent Farmers’ Delhi Chalo March, which took place on February 22, 2024, concluded tragically with the loss of a young protester’s life. Shubhkaran Singh, a 22-year-old farmer, was fatally shot during a clash with the Haryana Police and succumbed to his injuries. In a new development, Punjab’s Chief Minister, Bhagwant Mann, has pledged financial assistance and a government job for the family of the deceased farmer. The announcement was made via a post on the social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter).

Punjab CM Announces Compensation for Deceased Protester Farmer
In response to the unfortunate incident during the Delhi Chalo March, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann has declared compensation for the farmer who lost his life in the clash with Haryana Police. Through a social media post on ‘X’, Mann stated, “The Punjab government will offer financial aid of ₹1 crore to Shubh Karan’s family, along with a government job for his younger sister. We are fulfilling our responsibilities. Action will be taken against those accountable for the shooting.”

The Delhi Chalo March, initiated by over 200 farmer unions from Haryana, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh on February 13, 2024, aimed at pressing for the enactment of laws ensuring Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops. Despite four rounds of talks with the Central government, the farmers remained discontented and sustained their protest.
