Voter turnout remains a key indicator of public engagement, and past trends suggest fluctuating participation. In the 2020 Assembly elections, held on February 8, Delhi recorded a 62.59% turnout, lower than the 67.47% in 2015. Out of 1.47 crore registered voters, nearly 92.55 lakh cast their votes—50.78 lakh men and 41.76 lakh women. The decline in turnout raised concerns about voter enthusiasm and political engagement.
With an expanded electorate of 1.56 crore voters this time, election officials and analysts are eager to see whether participation improves. Factors such as voter awareness campaigns, easier access to polling stations, and the high-stakes nature of the election could play a significant role in turnout. The Election Commission has repeatedly urged citizens to cast their votes, emphasizing that an active democracy depends on public participation.
Additionally, a special initiative has been introduced to facilitate home voting for senior citizens and Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). A total of 7,552 voters have opted for this facility, available to those above 85 years of age and individuals with disabilities. To ensure smooth execution, the Election Commission of India (ECI) deployed 206 teams of polling officers across 11 districts and 70 constituencies in Delhi. As of January 31, 2025, 92% of registered home voters have successfully cast their ballots, including 5,982 senior citizens and 998 PwDs.
