Delhi experienced intense cold with a minimum temperature dropping to 7.4°C, offering no relief from the bone-chilling weather. On Tuesday morning, the Ridge area recorded the lowest temperature in the national capital.
The Safdargunj observatory in Delhi registered a minimum temperature of 8.3°C, while the Palam observatory reported 8.2°C, and Ayanagar noted 8°C at 8:30 am. A pervasive cold gripped large parts of North India, enveloping cities in thick fog and causing residents to gather around bonfires for warmth. The plummeting temperatures have led to a bitter cold wave in cities such as Prayagraj, Jaipur, and Delhi.
A satellite image from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) captured a dense fog layer over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, north Rajasthan, and north Madhya Pradesh at 8:30 am. The foggy conditions caused disruptions in transportation, affecting both flights and trains to and from the national capital. Approximately 80 flights were delayed at Delhi’s IGI Airport till 8:30 am on Saturday due to the adverse weather conditions.
