New Delhi, one of the popular tourist destinations in the subcontinent, welcomes tourists from around the world who often leave with cherished memories of capital city of India. However, this was not the case for Singaporean travel vlogger Sylvia Chan and her friend.
Sylvia Chan shared a video on Instagram detailing how she and her friend were scammed by an electric rickshaw driver in Delhi. In the video, she explains how the driver kept stopping at unwanted locations, drove them 5 km away from Chandni Chowk, and then rudely demanded Rs 6,000. The tourists ended up paying him Rs 2,000.
Here is the video :
Initially, the rickshaw driver seemed friendly and kind, but the situation quickly deteriorated. Sylvia described three “scams” she experienced during her time in Delhi. The incident began in Old Delhi’s Jama Masjid area, where the driver agreed to take them from Jama Masjid to Red Fort for Rs 100. However, after arriving at Red Fort, he refused the agreed payment.
They exchanged WhatsApp numbers for pick-up arrangements, but the driver continued to stop at various places against their wishes. At Khari Baoli, he even led them to a store on foot, insisting they follow him despite their desire to explore independently.
The situation escalated when they informed the driver that Krishna Market would be their last stop. Instead, he drove them for only 5 km away from Chandni Chowk and demanded the amount of Rs 6,000. Stranded and unfamiliar with the area, the tourists reluctantly agreed to pay Rs 2,000.
