The Election Commission of India (ECI) has imposed a comprehensive ban on exit polls during the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. This prohibition will be in effect from 7:00 AM to 6:30 PM on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, aligning with the polling hours across the capital’s 70 constituencies.

The directive explicitly forbids the conduct, publication, or dissemination of exit polls through any form of media during the specified timeframe. Additionally, the ECI has clarified that displaying any election-related content, including results of opinion polls or other survey findings, in electronic media is prohibited during the 48-hour period leading up to the conclusion of the polls. This measure aims to prevent undue influence on voters and ensure a fair electoral environment.
The Delhi Assembly elections are set to take place on February 5, 2025, with the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) seeking a third consecutive term in office. The ECI’s notification, issued on January 22, 2025, underscores the Commission’s commitment to maintaining the sanctity of the electoral process by mitigating potential biases that could arise from premature dissemination of poll-related information.
The ECI has consistently implemented such bans in past elections to preserve the integrity of the voting process. For instance, during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, a similar prohibition was enforced to prevent the influence of exit polls on voter behavior in subsequent phases of the multi-stage polling.
