Elon Musk expressed admiration for Indian-American US presidential hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy in a recent endorsement. Musk, the former owner of X (previously Twitter), commended Ramaswamy’s candidacy as “full of promise.” This endorsement came following an interview that the Republican candidate had with former Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson.
Musk reposted the interview, which referred to Ramaswamy, a 37-year-old, as the youngest Republican presidential contender in the United States. “He is a highly promising candidate,” Musk commented on the post.
Vivek Ramaswamy was born to Indian parents who immigrated to the US from Kerala. He is a tech entrepreneur with degrees from Harvard and Yale.
This development followed months after Ramaswamy had criticized Elon Musk for his interactions with Chinese officials. Musk’s trip to China, where he met with China’s Foreign Minister and praised the country’s prospects, had drawn concern from the Republican leader. Ramaswamy had accused China of manipulating influential US business figures to further its own interests.
Ramaswamy had raised concerns about Musk’s meeting with China’s foreign minister and his characterization of the US and Communist China as “conjoined twins.” Ramaswamy pointed out that Tesla’s VP in China had shared Musk’s statement on a Chinese social media platform, but not within the US.
In the past, Musk had shown support for Ron DeSantis, a political rival of Donald Trump, by endorsing his candidacy during a Twitter Spaces event.
Vivek Ramaswamy, along with Nikki Haley and Hirsh Vardhan Singh, are three Indian-Americans who are vying against former US President Donald Trump for the top position in the upcoming January election.
