Elon Musk has expressed his disbelief at India not having a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), despite being the most populous country. Musk characterized this situation as ‘absurd,’ suggesting that nations with significant power are reluctant to relinquish it. The discussion arose after UN Secretary-General António Guterres voiced concerns about the absence of any African nation as a permanent member of the Security Council. Michael Eisenberg, an American-born Israeli venture capitalist, brought up the issue of India’s representation, proposing the reorganization of the United Nations with stronger leadership. In response to this, Musk reiterated that the absence of a permanent seat for India on the Security Council is absurd, considering its status as the most populous country on Earth. As of now, the UNSC comprises five permanent members and ten non-permanent members, elected for two-year terms, with the five permanent members holding veto power over significant resolutions.
