Diljit Dosanjh Gets Conditional Clearance from FWICE for ‘Border 2’ Despite Ban

Ban lifted only for one film after Bhushan Kumar’s personal request

FWICE member Ashoke Pandit voices concern that the decision could set a harmful precedent.

Mumbai, July 4, 2025 – Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh, who was recently under fire for casting controversy surrounding his film Sardaar Ji 3, has received a special exemption from the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) to continue working on his upcoming war drama Border 2.

FWICE Lifts Ban Specifically for ‘Border 2’

Diljit had been banned by FWICE after backlash erupted over the inclusion of Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in Sardaar Ji 3. The move drew sharp criticism on social media and stirred national sentiments. Despite the ban, Diljit recently shared a video from the sets of Border 2, revealing that he had resumed shooting.

Following this, FWICE confirmed that the ban was temporarily lifted only for this project. The organization clarified that Diljit has not been reinstated generally but granted limited permission solely for Border 2.

Bhushan Kumar’s Appeal Swayed the Decision

According to FWICE President BN Tiwari, the decision to allow Diljit to shoot Border 2 came after producer Bhushan Kumar made a personal appeal. Tiwari revealed that Kumar promised Diljit would not be cast in any further projects after Border 2, and this was the only reason the federation made an exception.

Ashoke Pandit Raises Concerns Over Precedent

However, veteran FWICE member Ashoke Pandit wasn’t pleased with the decision. He pointed out that the ban on Diljit was a collective call, and making an exception like this could send the wrong message and set a troubling precedent for the future. He added that if any fallout occurs due to this leniency, FWICE will not take responsibility.

Diljit to Play Army Officer in Star-Studded War Drama

Directed by Anurag Singh, Border 2 will see Diljit Dosanjh portray an Indian Army officer. The film stars Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, and Ahan Shetty—Suniel Shetty’s son—playing key characters. The much-anticipated war drama is slated for theatrical release on January 23, 2026.
