Actor Suhail Nayyar reflects on his experience working with Rishi Kapoor during the filming of Sharmaji Namkeen, recalling how the late actor remained on set to assist with a key emotional scene. The film, Kapoor’s last, was later completed by Paresh Rawal and released on Amazon Prime Video in 2022
New Delhi – Actor Suhail Nayyar has shared a heartfelt memory of working with the late veteran actor Rishi Kapoor during the shooting of their film ‘Sharmaji Namkeen’. Reflecting on a key emotional scene, Suhail revealed how Kapoor’s unexpected gesture helped elevate his performance at a crucial moment.
In a conversation with news agency IANS, Suhail recounted,
“There was a tense father-son confrontation scene in the film. Rishi sir had already completed his part and pack-up had been called. But he asked if my close-up was pending. When he found out that it was, he refused to leave the set and stayed back so I could perform better.”
Suhail added,
“He stood right in front of me and delivered the lines live, just so I could catch the right emotional beat. That meant so much to me. If you watch that scene in the film, you’ll see how real and touching it feels.”
Sharmaji Namkeen: Rishi Kapoor’s Final Film

Sharmaji Namkeen was Rishi Kapoor’s last film, one he was unable to complete due to his passing in 2020. Actor Paresh Rawal stepped in to finish the remaining portions of the shoot. The film also starred Juhi Chawla, Suhail Nayyar, and Satish Kaushik in pivotal roles.
The story revolves around Brij Gopal Sharma (BG Sharma), a retired man living in Delhi’s Subhash Nagar with his two sons. A passionate cook, BG begins preparing meals for kitty parties after retirement—a decision that causes tension in the family once discovered. The film gently explores themes of aging, loneliness, dignity of work, and family relationships, all presented with warmth and subtle humor.
