A Masterpiece Reborn in 4K

First released in 1981, Umrao Jaan is a period musical drama directed by Muzaffar Ali and based on Mirza Hadi Ruswa’s Urdu novel Umrao Jaan Ada. Rekha’s portrayal of the Lucknowi tawaif and poet won her the National Award for Best Actress and cemented the film’s place in cinematic history.

Now restored in stunning 4K resolution, the film returned to theatres on June 27, giving a new generation a chance to experience its poetic beauty and visual opulence as intended.

The Coffee Table Book: A Tribute in Pages

In celebration of the re-release, Muzaffar Ali also unveiled a limited-edition coffee table book chronicling the behind-the-scenes magic of Umrao Jaan. With rare photographs, costume sketches, calligraphy, poetry, and personal stories from the set, the book is both a collector’s gem and a heartfelt homage to the film’s legacy.
