Cannes 2025: Nancy Tyagi faces backlash over rented beige gown passed off as self-made

Fashion influencer Nancy Tyagi, who made headlines last year for her self-stitched outfit at the Cannes Film Festival, is now facing a storm of criticism during her second appearance at Cannes 2025.
This time, Tyagi claimed to have designed and stitched a heavily embellished beige gown, saying it took her “one month” to make. In a heartfelt caption, she wrote: “Ye colour meri mummy ka favourite hai, isliye iss baar decide kiya ki isi colour mein dress design karun… Isse banane mein poora one month laga.”

However, internet users have raised serious questions about the authenticity of her claim. The Source, a costume rental company based in Bandra West, had reportedly featured the same gown on their social media in February 2025—months before Cannes. Additionally, singer Neha Bhasin revealed that she had worn the identical gown previously and even shared photos from the event to back it up.
The revelations have sparked accusations of dishonesty, with many calling Tyagi out for misleading her followers and the media. Critics are questioning how a rented gown could be passed off as a labor-intensive creation, especially when the same piece has a documented history of being worn earlier.
Nancy Tyagi, who won hearts last year for stitching her own red carpet look from scratch, has yet to respond to the controversy.
