Ranveer Singh Opens Up About Coping with Deepika Padukone’s Mental Health Struggles: ‘I Felt Helpless’

Ranveer Singh recently discussed his experiences in dealing with Deepika Padukone’s mental health challenges in the inaugural episode of Koffee With Karan Season 8. The esteemed couple was the first to grace the celebrity talk show hosted by Karan Johar. In addition to their candid confessions and entertaining rapid-fire rounds, the show is renowned for addressing topics often deemed taboo in society. Karan, who has consistently delved into important issues and sparked conversations by challenging stereotypes through his work in cinema, inquired about mental health in relation to Deepika and Ranveer. The couple openly shared their journey as a couple while navigating the complexities of depression.

Ranveer Singh revealed, “In year 2014, when it first happened, I was out for a shoot. She called and said, ‘I’ve had a blackout and I’ve fallen. Can you come home?’ I hung up, hopped on my bike, and when I saw her, something felt amiss. She was right in front of me, looking at me, but she wasn’t all there.” He continued, “One morning during breakfast, she was sitting across from me, crying uncontrollably with tears streaming down her face. When I asked her about it, she couldn’t provide an answer. The reason I remember that moment so vividly is because it was when I felt completely helpless.”

DEEPIKA REFLECTS ON RANVEER’S UNDERSTANDING OF DEPRESSION
Deepika shared her perspective on Ranveer’s comprehension of depression, stating, “I believe he understands mental illness much better today than he did back then. The fact that he created a safe space for me to be vulnerable, to share, to communicate, because often you’re overwhelmed with so many emotions, and you struggle to articulate them.” She also noted, “He didn’t know any better at that time. Over time, he learned how to be a supportive caregiver, but in that moment, we were all experiencing it for the first time.”

Deepika’s upcoming projects include Siddharth Anand’s “Fighter,” where she shares the screen with Hrithik Roshan and Anil Kapoor in pivotal roles. She is also set to star opposite Prabhas in Nag Ashwin’s “Kalki 2898 AD.” Her first look as “Lady Singham Shakti Shetty” in “Singham Again” was unveiled by Rohit Shetty on October 15, 2023, coinciding with the commencement of Navratri. Deepika is also expected to make a special appearance in the film “War 2,” featuring Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, Kiara Advani, and Sharvari Wagh.

Meanwhile, Ranveer is currently preparing for his role in Rohit Shetty’s “Singham Again,” alongside Ajay Devgn, Deepika, and Tiger Shroff.
