Teaser of ‘The Bengal Files’ Released: Darshan Kumar Says – “This Is Not Just a Role, It’s a Responsibility”

Mumbai: The much-awaited film The Bengal Files, directed by Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri, released its official teaser on Thursday. The film stars Darshan Kumar, known for his powerful performance in The Kashmir Files, in another emotionally intense and thought-provoking role.

This time, Darshan will be seen portraying Pandit Shiva, a character deeply rooted in the pain and trauma of the communal riots and tragedies during the partition era in Bengal. The Bengal Files will arrive in theatres on September 5, 2025.

The teaser offers glimpses of historical events like Direct Action Day and the Noakhali riots, promising a compelling narrative. The Bengal Files is the third and final installment in Agnihotri’s ‘Files’ trilogy, following the critically acclaimed The Tashkent Files and The Kashmir Files.

An Emotionally Driven Role: Speaking about the teaser release, Darshan Kumar said,

“I’m extremely excited but equally nervous about this role. It’s not just a character – it’s a responsibility to portray the pain, courage, and truth of an entire community. This role is deeper, more emotional, and filled with raw truth.”

He expressed his wish for the film to strike an emotional chord with the audience.

“There are stories you simply don’t narrate — you live them. This film is one of those,” he shared.

Powerful Ensemble Cast: The film features a strong lineup including Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Puneet Issar, Pallavi Joshi, and Punjabi singer-actor Babbu Maan in pivotal roles. Darshan called working with such a veteran cast a truly honorable experience in his career.

Directed by Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri and produced by Abhishek Agarwal, The Bengal Files is based on the communal riots that took place in undivided Bengal before and during the Partition — events that history has often overlooked.

The film aims not only to expose the truths of a forgotten past but also to give a voice to those who were silenced in the pages of history.
