Who Is Tanya Mittal? Bigg Boss 19 Contestant in the Spotlight for Her Journey and Controversies

Updated At: September 9, 2025 2:08 PM

Tanya Mittal’s rise from beauty queen to entrepreneur and reality TV star has made her one of the most talked-about contestants on Bigg Boss 19

Bigg Boss 19 contestant Tanya Mittal has emerged as one of the most talked-about contestants of the season, keeping viewers hooked with her presence and persona. The interesting blend of glitz, the American style of emotional revelations, and scandalous declarations that give her the respect of some and criticism of others makes Tanya easily identifiable.

Family background and childhood

Tanya is from a middle-class business family in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. Her father, Amit Mittal, is running a private business. Tanya talks highly of her mother, who was a great help. In the Bigg Boss house, Tanya explained to her housemates how tough her childhood was and said her father would hit her and her mother would rescue her. Tanya also says she was colas at 19; she responded to the pressure of getting ‘married’ and even thought of dying.

Education and Career

Tanya started her architecture career studying at Chandigarh University, and then she graduated and focused on modeling and business. She first made headlines in 2018 after winning the Miss Asia Tourism Universe crown, a moment that gave her recognition abroad.

She later started a handicraft business, called “Handmade Love by Tanya,” for which she started with ₹500. She developed the business with diligence and social media marketing. She has since expanded her profile as a TEDx speaker, podcaster, and Instagram influencer with a fan base of more than 2.5 million, where she shares everything from lifestyle updates to motivational and spiritual content.

Bigg Boss 19 Journey

The spotlight turned to Tanya Mittal the moment she entered Bigg Boss 19, bringing along hundreds of sarees, kilos of jewellery, and her own utensils. The elaborate entry didn’t just grab eyeballs but also attracted memes and trolls.

During her time in the house, Tanya spoke candidly about her troublesome childhood and her struggles as a young entrepreneur and branded herself as a spiritual storyteller. But when she mentioned in a voiceover that she had elevators in her home, bodyguards, and that the only electricity bill she paid was ₹600, she opened the gates to trolling.

In retaliation to the trolling, a viral video was published claiming to show Tanya’s lavish mansion. It was all fabricated, as the video footage was of a palace in Pakistan. Tanya has kept her head up and moved beyond the trolling, and a portion of her followers, like some Indian journalists, are rooting for her. Actress Gauahar Khan publicly came to Tanya’s defense, declaring she was being bullied.

Social media and philanthropy

Tanya’s public persona is complex. While there are critics questioning her perceived claims of wealth, some supporters highlight her struggles, aspirations, and social responsibilities. She has supported NGOs, taken on a village pen near Gwalior, and covered one of the episodes for underprivileged children’s education.

Her former boyfriend, Balraj Singh, alleged that her spiritual persona was exaggerated for attention, but he acknowledged her dedication to business.

Tanya Mittal Net Worth

Estimates of Tanya’s net worth range from ₹2 crore to ₹15 crore, putting her among the more affluent contestants, though not the richest on Bigg Boss 19.

Her journey combines ambition, controversy, and resilience. Whether Bigg Boss 19 helps polish her reputation or adds to the criticism, Tanya Mittal has ensured she remains one of the season’s most talked-about contestants.
