EPFO and EPS-95 Pensioners Confront Pension Disparities: Demands for Significant Minimum Pension Hike Intensify

Pensioners Want Full Medical Coverage and a Minimum Monthly Pension of ₹7,500

Memorandums to Government Officials and Growing Pressure Lead EPFO to Accept Additional Talks

Discussion On New Pension Scheme

New Delhi, August 27

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation on Tuesday held an important meeting with EPS-95 pensioners. The objective of the meeting was to resiolve the pending demands of the pensioners. Nearly 7.7 million EPS-95 pensioners across India are awaiting enhancement in their minimum pension post the government introduced the Unifide Pension Scheme (UPS).

Other major demands include increasing the minimum pension to ₹7500 per month, granting dearness allowance,, and providing free medical facilities to the pensioners and their spouses. EPS-95 National Agitation Committee President, Commander Ashok Raut announced that the superannuation funds body had agreed for another meeting within a fortnight to discuss the various issues and suggestions of the committee.

At the meeting, committee officials also pointed out that even the government contributes 18.5% under UPS and they contributes only 1.16% under EPS-95. Hence, the minimum Pension fixation shall be to thetuneof₹ 10,000. However, they are giving a minimal demand of only ₹ 7,500. National General Secretary Virendra Singh Rajawat further said that besides this meeting at the EPFO headquarters, memorandums were submitted to the Prime Minister and the Labor Minister at EPFO offices located throughout the country.

Others present in the meeting include Additional CPFC Chandra Mauli Chakravarty, Aparajita Jaggi, Shubham Agarwal, and several senior members of the committee. Besides this, from the committee Commander Ashok Raut, and Virendra Singh Rajawat participated along with National Advisor P. N. Patil, National Secretary Ramesh Bahuguna, Rajeev Bhatnagar, National Treasurer B. S. Narkhede, National President of the Women’s Front Shobha Aras, and National Secretary Sarita Narkhede. Pensioners are very optimistic with the meeting and see light at the end of the tunnel that positive action will be meted out by the government.
