New Delhi: French President Emmanuel Macron has expressed his support for India’s bid to host the 2036 Summer Olympic Games. Last year, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially announced the country’s intention to bid for the 2036 Olympics and Paralympics, describing it as a ‘dream for 1.4 billion citizens.’ To bolster this effort, both the Union Government and the State Government of Gujarat have allocated Rs 6000 crore towards various projects aimed at developing sports infrastructure in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, positioning the twin cities as strong contenders to host the world’s largest sporting event.
In addition to endorsing India’s bid, Macron also issued a note of caution. “First and foremost, I am a strong believer in your country, in its future, and in its ability to organize such events,” the French President stated during an interview with Jio Cinema.
He further remarked, “This is a highly competitive process. It is important not to underestimate this fact. I recall seven years ago when I visited Lausanne, we were competing with the United States, specifically Los Angeles. Ultimately, we reached an agreement, and it remains a great example of cooperation. The process of competing itself serves as excellent preparation.”
