From a Small Village of Bihar to National Glory: Shivang Krishnam’s Inspiring Journey in Thang Ta

Maranchi, Patna (Bihar) –

In a moment of immense pride for his family and the state of Bihar, Shivang Krishnam from Maranchi, Patna, won the Silver Medal at the prestigious XXIXth National Thang Ta Championship. Yesterday, his achievement was recognized by the Government of Bihar, as he was honoured with the Bihar Rajya Khel Samman at a grand ceremony at Gyan Bhawan, Patna. The recognition, conferred by the Sports Department of Bihar, came with a memento and a cheque worth ₹1.5 lakh, presented by Ravindran Shankaran, Sports DG, Pr. Srijesh, Paris Olympic Hockey Player & Bronze Medalist, and the Hon’ble Minister of Sports, Bihar.

This extraordinary accomplishment is not just a testament to Shivang’s personal dedication and love for sports, but also a reflection of the immense hard work and sacrifice put in by his parents and coach. His journey, from the humble beginnings of a village in Maranchi, to the national stage, showcases the power of perseverance and commitment.

Thang Ta, a traditional Manipuri martial art that involves both armed and unarmed combat techniques, has always symbolized strength, agility, and discipline – virtues that Shivang embodies.

Shivang’s family played a crucial role in nurturing his passion for the sport. His father, a hardworking man from Maranchi, and his mother, who always believed in her son’s abilities, provided him with unconditional support despite financial limitations. Shivang expressed deep gratitude for their sacrifices and unconditional love: “My parents’ belief in me is the foundation of everything I’ve achieved. Their sacrifices, especially my mother’s constant encouragement, gave me the strength to pursue my dream.”*

A significant source of inspiration for Shivang was his maternal grandfather, a former state-level badminton player from Barh, Patna, who once competed against the legendary Syed Modi. Shivang shared a deep bond with his grandfather, who had passed away just a year ago. “My grandfather was my hero,” Shivang said, “He was the one who first instilled in me a love for sports. I grew up listening to stories of his matches, and his passion for badminton. I dedicate this award to him.”

Shivang’s coach has been an equally pivotal figure in his life, guiding him through the challenges of mastering a demanding sport like Thang Ta. In his own words, “My coach has been my mentor and a second father figure. His patience, discipline, and relentless support pushed me beyond my limits.”

Shivang’s victory is also a triumph for the people of Maranchi, a small village in Bihar. His story has brought hope and inspiration to the younger generation, proving that talent, when nurtured with hard work, can break all barriers – geographical, social, and economic.

As he looks ahead, Shivang aspires to represent India at even higher levels of competition and dreams of one day securing an international medal. With his family’s support, the guidance of his coach, and the eternal blessings of his late grandfather, he is determined to continue his journey of excellence.
