Gautam Gambhir has been appointed as the head coach of the Indian cricket team following Rahul Dravid’s departure. It seems issues have already begun to surface. Gambhir reportedly wants former India cricketer Vinay Kumar as the bowling coach, but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) prefers World Cup winner Zaheer Khan for the role. A source revealed that the BCCI is not very keen on appointing Vinay Kumar as the head coach.

Mumbai: Gautam Gambhir has taken over as the head coach of the Indian cricket team after Rahul Dravid’s exit. Problems appear to be arising already. Gambhir wants former India cricketer Vinay Kumar to be the bowling coach, but the BCCI favors World Cup winner Zaheer Khan for the position. A source mentioned that the BCCI is not inclined to appoint Vinay Kumar as the head coach.
It will be interesting to see if Zaheer Khan can take up the role, considering his broadcasting commitments. The next few days will be crucial to see if the BCCI yields to pressure or gets its way past Gambhir.

Solid Working Relationship with Kohli: It is well-known that Kohli and Gambhir have had a rocky past despite coming from the same state, mainly because both are highly competitive. Therefore, the initial focus will be on the relationship between Gambhir and Kohli. If they can resolve their differences, most issues should be manageable.
WTC Title: India has reached the World Test Championship final twice but failed to win. If India makes it to the final again, there will be high expectations for Gambhir to help the team win the title.
