Bathinda, 25 April 2025 —
Guru Kashi University (GKU) has taken a compassionate step to support the families affected by the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 innocent civilians. In response to this tragic event, GKU has announced free education for children who lost their fathers in the attack, ensuring their future remains secure despite the devastating circumstances.
The announcement was made by GKU Chancellor, S. Gurlabh Singh Sidhu, who expressed deep sorrow over the loss of innocent lives and emphasized the university’s commitment to standing by the affected families. He said, “The loss of innocent lives in Pahalgam is not just a tragedy for Kashmir—it is a wound felt across the entire nation. As an institution dedicated to the values of service and learning, we at Guru Kashi University will stand by these children. Their education will be our responsibility. We are committed to ensuring they are not left behind in their hour of greatest need.”
In addition to the educational initiative, Chancellor Sidhu also reiterated GKU’s support for the Government of India’s strong stance against terrorism. He stated, “We unequivocally condemn this brutal act of terror perpetrated by men driven by hatred and fear. But they will never succeed in dividing our society. As educators and citizens, we must answer with unity, not division; with compassion, not hatred. Guru Kashi University fully supports the Indian government’s stand against terrorism and its efforts to ensure justice and restore peace in Kashmir.”
The university’s gesture not only provides a lifeline to the orphaned children but also serves as a testament to GKU’s ongoing commitment to community support, education, and nation-building. It stands firmly against the forces that aim to destabilize the region and create divisions within society.
In addition to offering educational support, GKU extends its heartfelt condolences to the families affected by the attack and stands with the people of Kashmir during this painful time. The university recognizes the strength, resilience, and warmth of the Kashmiri community and firmly rejects any attempts by violent forces to disrupt the peace and unity of the region.
Guru Kashi University calls on educational institutions and civil society to join forces in supporting the affected families and opposing divisive forces. The university believes in the power of education as a tool for healing, empowerment, and social change.
