Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Cause Traffic Jams and Waterlogging in Parts of Delhi

Heavy rainfall and strong winds swept through Delhi and the National Capital Region this morning, leading to waterlogging and traffic congestion in various parts of the city. The weather forecast indicates that residents can expect mostly cloudy skies with light to moderate rainfall for the next five days.

Early this morning, there was light rain in certain areas of South West Delhi, including Vasant Vihar, Munirka, and RK Puram. Videos from the Delhi-Noida Expressway depicted extensive traffic jams.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) anticipates that the spells of light rain and gusty winds will gradually subside after 9:30 am today. The weather forecasting agency Skymet warned of intense rain approaching Delhi NCR from the north, which may soon cover the entire city.

On Thursday, Delhi recorded maximum temperatures of 37.6 degrees Celsius, which is four degrees above the average for this time of year. The minimum temperature was 27.8 degrees Celsius.

According to the IMD’s weather bulletin at 7:29 am today, Delhi-NCR is likely to experience gusty winds with speeds of 50-70 kmph and moderate rain, occasionally intensifying due to approaching clouds from NW Uttar Pradesh until around 09:30 am. After that, the gusty winds and rainfall are expected to gradually decrease. It is advisable to stay updated and take precautions for safety.

In a subsequent post on X, formerly known as Twitter, the IMD predicted thunderstorms with light to moderate-intensity rain over Delhi and NCR.
