New Delhi : Delhi and Gurugram found solace today as rain swept in, breaking the relentless grip of scorching heat. In RK Puram, Delhi, streets came alive with downpours, a stark contrast to the intense heatwave that had blanketed the region. Similar scenes unfolded across the National Capital Region (NCR), with Gurugram in Haryana also drenched by showers.
The day began under partly cloudy skies in Delhi, where temperatures settled at a more tolerable 28.4 degrees Celsius, as reported by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Forecasters from the IMD had anticipated thunderstorms and light rain in various parts of the city later in the day, keeping maximum temperatures around 40 degrees Celsius in check.
Meanwhile, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi registered as “moderate,” with a reading of 157 at 9 am, according to the Central Pollution Control Board. This offered some respite amid the ongoing concerns over air quality, which fluctuates between different levels of severity depending on the reading.
The rain not only cooled the temperature but also brought a brief reprieve from the suffocating heatwave that had gripped the area, providing a welcome change for residents weary of the sweltering conditions.
