Himachal Pradesh’s Revenue, Horticulture, and Tribal Development Minister Jagat Singh Negi inaugurated the much-anticipated Him Mahotsav at Delhi Haat. Organized by the Himachal Pradesh Government in collaboration with the Ministry of MSME, this festival is a celebration of the state’s rich cultural heritage.
Running from January 1 to January 15, 2025, the festival features 60 stalls showcasing exquisite handloom and handicraft products crafted by skilled Himachali artisans. The highlights of the event include the traditional Kangri Dham and vibrant cultural performances that transport visitors to the heart of Himachal.
Speaking at the event, Minister Jagat Singh Negi emphasized the importance of such festivals. “Events like this should be organized in other states and cities to promote the rich culture and unique products of Himachal Pradesh. Our handloom and handicrafts are gaining recognition globally, and this is a proud moment for all of us,” he said.
He added that the festival provides the residents of the National Capital Region (NCR) with an opportunity to experience Himachal’s artistic brilliance and cultural richness. “The folk music and dances presented here are captivating, offering a much-deserved platform to our talented artists and craftsmen,” the minister noted.
The minister also lauded the efforts of the Himachal Pradesh State Handloom and Handicrafts Corporation in uplifting local artisans and honored several craftsmen for their exceptional contributions:
- Traditional Craft Preservation Award: O.P. Malhotra, Ritu Dhiman, and Poonam & Balbir (Woodcraft).
- Innovation in Handicrafts Award: Indira Devi (Kulluvi Whims) and Isha (Traditional Jewelry).
- Young Artisan Award: Veer Singh (Metalwork), Ajay Sharma (Handicrafts), and Jagdish (Handicrafts).
- Community Impact Award: Anshul Malhotra and Rajan Minhas.
Delhi Residents Love Himachali Delights
Delhi resident Tyulip shared her delight after visiting the festival. “The handloom and handicrafts are stunning, but what truly stole my heart was the Kangri Dham. The food is not just delicious but also a reflection of Himachali hospitality,” she said.
Another visitor, Twishaa, who was exploring Himachali culture for the first time, said, “Experiencing Kangri Dham and Siddu was absolutely delightful. The traditions and cuisine of Himachal are so rich and unique—they’re an experience everyone should savor at least once.”
Reconnecting with Roots
For Noida-based Himachali couple Diksha and Suranjan Singh, the festival was a nostalgic journey. “Events like this help us reconnect with our roots. Tasting traditional Himachali food and enjoying the cultural performances makes us feel closer to home. It fills us with pride to see our heritage being celebrated on such a grand scale,” they said.
Minister Negi also invited people to visit Himachal Pradesh, calling it one of the most favored tourist destinations in the country. “With its snow-capped mountains, lush green meadows, serene lakes, and thrilling water sports, Himachal has something for everyone,” he added.
R.D. Nazim, Additional Chief Secretary (Industries), highlighted in his welcome speech that this is the second edition of the Him Mahotsav in Delhi. “Last year’s event received overwhelming support, and this year we aim to further showcase Himachal’s crafts, cuisine, and rich culture to a national audience,” he said.
The event concluded with cultural performances by Himachali artists, leaving the audience spellbound. Gandharva Rathore, Managing Director of the Himachal Pradesh State Handloom and Handicrafts Corporation, delivered the vote of thanks.
The event was graced by the presence of Minister Negi’s wife Sushila Negi, Chief Electoral Officer Nandita Gupta, Residential Commissioner Meera Mohanty, Joint Director (MSME) R.K. Bharti, and other dignitaries and officials from the state government.
