HRDS INDIA Launches Rehabilitation Programme For Those Who Lost Their Home In Wayanad Disaster


New Delhi: 03 August, 2024

Shri Ajikrishnan, Secretary, HRDS INDIA has informed that his organisation is ready to rebuilt Churalmala, a village that was completely destroyed by heavy rains and massive landslides in Wayanad, Kerala, without any financial obligation to the government. The Organisation has submitted the consent letter and project document to the Honorable Chief Minister of Kerala.

Around thousands of families in Churalmala, Mundakai area were severely affected by the disaster. HRDS INDIA will construct houses free of cost to all those who have lost their houses completely. The government would have to acquire and provide the necessary land for this. The houses will be of 2bhk with hall, kitchen, bathroom, varanda and guest room. Apart from building houses, HRDS INDIA is also ready to provide basic facilities like drinking water, electricity facilities, playground, auditorium, school etc. For building public institutions, the government should acquire twenty acres of land and provide ten cents of land for each house. Thousands of acres of land belonging to Harrison Malayalam Plantation and Kannan Devan Estate are available in the said area. The government can acquire the land required for this project from the estate management. Beneficiaries should be identified by the government।

For those who have lost all their hard-earned savings, need to find a way to survive. As a part of that, taking advantage of the tourist potential of Wayanad, a separate room will be constructed for home tourism in each house. This room will have a door from the outside and two beds, cooking facilities fridge and attached bathroom verandah etc. At least 3000 rupees will be earned in the form of daily rent. HRDS will make arrangements to bring domestic and foreign tourists to this area known as ‘Munnar of Wayanad’. HRDS will prepare a detailed project document and discuss it in a committee consisting of people’s representatives, senior officials and experts and submit the DPR to the Government.

With the help of HRDS president, Swami Atma Nambi’s Ashram in Brazil, the aim is to implement the reconstruction plan as soon as possible. In a press conference held in Delhi, officials informed that they are ready to build fully furnished houses in 180 days and hand over the keys to the beneficiaries if the government provide the land for the purpose.

HRDS Emeritus Chairman Dr.S.Krishnakumar, Founder Secretary Aji Krishnan, Chief Project Coordinator Joy Mathew, Advisory Committee Chairman Sanjiv Bhatnagar, OSD Saji Karunakaran, Jitender Bhandari and Jonali Biswas participated in the press conference.
